Outdoor Project at the Grantham Senior Citizens Centre

In Spring 2024, the Grantham Sunrise Rotary Club successfully completed a community project to renovate the outdoor space of the Grantham Senior Citizens Community Centre.

Opened in Welham Street in 2017, The Grantham Senior Citizens Community Centre is multi-purpose community space which holds a range of activities and events to bring members of our community together and supports those at risk of isolation. It also runs a community cafe which is operated by Tess CIC who provide work experience and training opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities, helping them develop employability skills and confidence.

Our Rotary project aimed to support this by creating a communal outdoor area for visitors to enjoy. Over several weeks, our dedicated team visited the centre to transform the area. We started by removing overgrown shrubs and weeds, then cleared the space of rubbish and painted the fence panels. Additionally, we refurbished the benches and installed an outdoor tap to enhance the functionality of the space. Adding a personal touch, we also painted and displayed 12 decorative butterflies around the area.

Renovating this space has been a brilliant opportunity for Rotarians, friends and family to have get involved in one of our hands-on projects and to see the direct impact we can make to our community. With the renovation complete, the Grantham Senior Citizens Centre plans to use this newly revitalized space as an outdoor seating area for their café.

Club President Lez says “I am extremely pleased with the work carried out by the Grantham Sunrise Rotary Club in expediting this wonderful community project, and thank everyone for brightening up the area for the local people, lead by President Elect Praf”

A special thanks to Praf for leading this project and to everyone who contributed their time and effort!
