Our Candidate Jude Roundtree
Calvert Trust 2025 Grantham Sunrise Rotary sponsored a candidate, Jude Roundtree, along with Rotarian Irvin Metcalf as a Rotarian assistant. Jude has OCD and so he’s quite a challenge for the for the professional team leader and assistant. The course is a week-long course residential and it is based at Calvert Trust, near Keswick in the Lake District.
Rotary in district 1070 East Midlands send a busload of candidates to Calvert trust. On arrival the candidates were split into teams of about 6 or 7 members each led by a Calvert Trust expert assisted by Rotarian helpers. On our team, which was the green team, were three boys and four girls each with varying abilities and disablements.
The purpose of Calvert Trust. Is to take the candidates out of their comfort zone and teach them teamwork, confidence building and resilience. One of the rewarding things of Calvert Trust is to see candidates who initially say they can’t do something, then they see other candidates doing the task in hand and with a little bit of encouragement they end up doing it themselves. This is where we get our reward as Rotarians, seeing the joy of an achievement. The reward is seeing the difference in our candidates’ confidence and abilities as the week progresses.
Grantham Sunrise Rotary was assisted to fund the sponsorship by a Rotary District Grant and Grantham Youth Trust
