Cumbrian Flood Collection – December 2015

Grantham people donate over £1,500 to Rotary collection for Cumbrian flood victims

Grantham Sunrise Rotary club has reacted to the flood crisis in the north-west of the country, leading a bucket collection across the town on Saturday morning which raised £1,564 in just five hours.

A ‘call-to-arms’ had been dispatched from Rotary’s district governor, to help families whose homes were left waterlogged. However, the ‘Sunrisers’ had already decided that something had to be done and under the leadership of president Andre Finney, a licence was applied for and granted by South Kesteven District Council for a street collection.

Andre then contacted the town’s other two Rotary clubs – Grantham and Grantham Kesteven – asking for help. And they agreed, helping with collection in thwe town centre and other key locations such as Asda and Downtown.

Andre said: “We had a wonderful response with most of the Sunrise club attending, joined by members of the other Grantham Rotary clubs, and the reaction from the public was sympathetic and generous.”

The money raised will be handed to the Rotary district governor of Carlisle and surrounding areas who is dealing with the distribution of aid to troubled areas.Grantham Sunrise Rotary Club would like to thank the generosity of the people of Grantham in raising this donation.
