President’s Report

INVOLVEMENT WITH ENJOYMENT    Come and Join Us. Meet new people. Have fun while serving our community

We are a new club, having received our Charter only in July 2015.  Being a new club is an exciting time, as we have few traditions to follow and innovative ways of doing things.

From the outset we wanted to break the stereotype of what people perceived as being ‘a Rotarian’. Old men who wears collar and tie and a big meal at their meetings

To this end we are an informal club little ceremony.  We have a wide age range of members.

We recognise that Rotary can be expensive which has put off some people joining,  and so to address this we are a ‘doing’ club rather than a ‘hand in your pocket’ club.  Our membership subscription is only £10.00 per month and is collected by standing order, so there are no lump sums to find. This covers PL insurance, quarterly magazines and access to personal development and training tools from the websites.

This year we have planned several activities where we ask members to give their time and talents.  We have acted as stewards at a Flower Festival held in July.  We are committed to help refurbish the Scout’s building in Barrowby, hold a street collection to raise money for the Rotary End Polio project, organise a town quiz for Rotary Foundation.   We also have continuing commitments with the Grantham Passage, and helping school leavers with interviewing techniques and CV writing.

Our big project in 2020-21 is a sensory garden at Ambergate school with all our members taking part. As well as this major project we are just wrapping up our first International project replacing toilet doors and delivering redundant English school books to Busama school in the Gambia.

Our big project for 2021-22 id the TESS Project creating a minibus parking area and renewing Poly Tunnel doors

“It is an honour and privilege to lead Grantham Sunrise Rotary this year and I hope together we will be enjoying our involvement in the club and the wider community.”
